Summary
After upgrading to Windows 10, most users found that the default program for opening image changes to be Windows photo instead of Windows Photo Viewer. However, this change makes people feel unaccustomed. How can we change the default program back to Windows Photo Viewer? Here is the solution!



Most Windows 10 users found that the default program for opening image changes to be Windows photo. However, this change makes people feel unaccustomed. How can we change the default program back to Windows Photo Viewer like the previous Windows version? Following is the solution!

Steps of finding back Windows Photo Viewer:

1. After running Windows 10, press WIN+R button and then enter “regedit” in the pop up window and click “OK”.

2. After Registry Editor opened, please go to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Photo Viewer\Capabilities\FileAssociations.

Then please right click on the right side and select “New” then “String Value”.

3. Please save the value name to be the extention of target image like .JPG .bmp, etc. And then the value data is “PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff”.

4. Folloing image formats are avialiable in Windows 10, they are: “.jpg .jpeg .bmp .png .ico .gif .tif .tiff” etc. All of them need to be set.
Set method is similar to the said method. If you want to open file with extension of .png, then save the value name to be .png and value data is still the same “PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff”..
In other words, make the value name to be any extension of your targe image and then keep the value data to be “PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff”.

5. After finish, please exit Registry Editor and then click the related image, and we will find that the image is opened with Windows Photo Viewer. Then we can make Windows Photo Viewer to be the default program when we open photos.
