Summary
MKV is an open-standard multimedia container format, a file format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, image or subtitle tracks in one file. How to split a MKV video? Why images cannot synchronize with sounds in some MKV videos? Dr. Renee will tell you all!

What is MKV?

MKV is a multimedia container format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, image or subtitle tracks in one file. It is similar in concept to other containers like AVI, MP4 and ASF, but it is entirely open in specification.

MKV is a universal format for storing multiple videos in different encodings, audios and subtitle tracks, even including such streaming media as RealMedidia and QuickTime. Currently, it can contain AVI, DivX, XviD, 3ivX and VP6 video encodings and audio encodings, such as PCM, MP3 and AC3.

Part 2. What is MKV Video Splitting with/without Re-encoding?

Split MKV videos without re-encoding: the MKV splitter will not reduce the video quality in this way.

Split MKV videos with re-encoding: the MKV splitter re-encodes the videos before splitting. Generally, if loss compression is utilized in MKV encoding, the video quality will be slightly reduced after re-encoding.

Part 3. How to Synchronize Images and Sounds When Splitting MKV Videos?

As mentioned above, MKV is an open-standard multimedia container format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, image or subtitle tracks. Much software can split MKV videos directly but cannot let users select the target audio tracks or subtitles. However, Renee Video Editor has got it. In Renee Video Editor, you can select the target audio tracks and subtitles, split MKV or any other videos without re-encoding and realize images synchronization with sounds.
