Part 1: What is Face ID?

Facial recognition system will recognize the face information like position, key features of the faces once it detects a face. Then related information will be used to compared with the face in database to find out the related identification. Based on this technology, Designed and developed by Apple Inc, Face ID makes full use of this technology and became the successor of the Touch ID, making Apple devices more efficient.

Part 2: Why does Face ID Fail to Work?

Face ID is not working? It could be caused by the following reasons.

1. TrueDepth Camera is Covered

Face ID of Apple devices need to make use of the TrueDepth Camera to read and compare the face information with the registered face. When the TrueDepth Camera is covered by other things like screen protectors, Face ID will fail to work. So, please make sure the TrueDepth Camera is clear and not covered.

2.User’s Face is Obscured

Please make sure that user is not wearing something like mask which will prevent the Face ID from collecting face information.

3. Face ID is Disabled

Of course, if you do not turn on the Face ID function, it will not work. Please follow the steps below to check whether you has enabled this function.

Go to [Settings] in related Apple device and then [Face ID & Passcode]. Then please enter the passcode of your device. Please check whether you has turned on the Face ID function. If not, please follow the direction to enable it.

4. System is Out of Date

Please make sure the device has updated to the latest version of iOS. Because out-of-date iOS system could lead to a failure Face ID.

2. Restart

Please restart the device to solve Face ID not working.

3. Set Up an Alternate Appearance

If the Apple device fails to authenticate user’s face with the registered face in Face ID, user will fail to get access to the device with Face ID. it is recommended to set up the alternate appearance. Here is how it goes:

Go to [Settings] – [Face ID & Passcode] and then please enter the passcode. Find [Set Up an Alternate Appearance] and follow the instruction to set an alternate appearance.

4. Reset the Face ID

If related problem can not be solved with the methods above, please try the [Reset Face ID] function.

Go to [Settings] – [Face ID & Passcode] and then please enter the passcode. Find [Reset Face ID] and follow the instruction to reset the Face ID.

5. Reset All Settings

If the problem still exits, please try [Reset All Settings] which will not delete data in the device.

Find [General] in [Settings]. Then please get access to [Reset] and [Reset All Settings]. After reset, please restart related device and try the Face ID function again.

6. Contact Apple

The final option is to contact Apple for help if the said methods can not help you solve the problem.
