Summary
Car dash cam is the standard equippment of each car. Many people prefer to install one when they bought the cars. In this essay, we will talk about how to set loop recording and how to recover the overwritten video data.

Part 1: About Car Dash Cams

Car Dash Cam is a tiny video camera. This installation behind the front windshield can record the videos and voices during the driving process. Most of the car dash cams are equipped with the parked vehicle surveillance system that can monitor the vehicle when the driver is absent. Besides, videos and voices record in the car dash cam could be the powerful evidences in traffic accidents.

Part 2: How to Save Data into Car Dash Cam

1. Segmented recording

Generally, users can set the recording time in the car dash cam, 1min, 3mins or 5mins. These videos will be saved in the SD card. As the storage space becomes full, these videos will be automatically deleted to make room for new videos. That is also the principle of loop recording.

2. Loop recording

Loop recording is the basic function for the current car dash cams. By default, it is opened all the time. Yet, when the storage space is almost full, the previously saved videos will be overwritten (except the emergency locked videos). If you close loop recording, the videos will not be overwritten any more. If your car dash cam has reminded you to format the full disk, it is proved that loop recording is close.

How to set loop recording:

① Go to the Setting menu. Then, find out and select [Loop recording].

② Then select the video duration: 3mins, 5mins or 10mins. We suggest a video should be from 2mins to 3mins.

Note: The details may not be completely identical with the case because their models and brands are different.
Some people doubt that loop recording will overwrite the previous videos saved in the accidents, which will not be able to collect the evidence in the future. Don’t worry! When an emergency happens in a vehicle, G-sensor will be aroused automatically and then it will save and lock the accident videos in fear that loop recording overwrites them. We can say that loop recording is very useful because it greatly utilizes the storage space but also lowers the storage cost.

3. How long can be recorded on Micro SD card

Micro SD card, the standard storage card of the car dash cam, ranges from 8G to 128G. You can view the manual to buy a suitable micro SD card for the card dash cam. Generally speaking, a 1080P video at the rate of 25 FPS can be 90MB per minute. That is to say, an 8GB storage card can record videos for 90 minutes without emergency storage.

If you want to store more videos, please choose the card at high capacity. Now, most of car dash cams support the SD card up to 64GB. You can check the product instruction to know whether your cam can change a larger card.

Part 3: How to Recover Overwritten Data on Car Dash Cam

Whether the overwritten video data is recoverable, it should follow these cases:

  • If the card dash cam does not record new videos or just record some short videos, it is possible to recover the overwritten data.
  • If the car dash cam records many videos on the sectors where the past videos were deleted, it is hardly to recover the overwritten data.
