Part 1: Why iPhone Not Working

iPhone, one of the popular smartphone brands in the world, is featured as high performance and security. But some improper operations can cause iPhone not to work. We often encounter these iPhone problems:

● iPhone cannot boot but stay on the Apple logo or black screen.

Steps:

① Connect iPhone to the computer. Those who use macOS Catalina 10.15 shall open [Finder]; those who use macOS Mojave 10.14 or the earlier versions and Windows, launch iTunes.

② Unlock iPhone screen and then tap [Trust]. Type the passcode to allow connection between iPhone and the computer.

③ Click [Backup Now] in iTunes to back up your iPhone. If you want to save the Health data and the keychains, you shall encrypt to back up.

Note: If you encrypt to back up iPhone data, you must keep the password well. Otherwise, you cannot access the backup file.

④ Finally, wait for the backup to be completed.

Backup with iCloud

Steps:

① Turn on network connection on iPhone.

② Tap on [Settings] – your Apple account – [iCloud].

③ Turn on [iCloud Backup] and tap on [Back Up Now]. Please do not stop Wi-Fi connection in this process.

1. Force Restart iPhone

When iPhone has no response, we can try to force restart iPhone. That can solve many iPhone problems.

How to force restart iPhone:

● iPad/iPhone 6s and the earlier versions: Press the power button and the Home button.

● iPhone 7/7 Plus: Press the power button and the volume down button.

● iPad Pro/iPhone 8 and the later versions: Quickly press and release the volume up button, and then release the volume down button, and finally hold the Power button until you see the Apple logo.

If iPhone does not work, try the other solutions.

2. Charge iPhone

If you merely see the black screen on iPhone, you shall check if the power is out of use. Having been used for a period, the iPhone battery is consumed much. Sometimes, we see the power is full but the battery is not completely charged. As you use the phone, it will turn to black suddenly due to the low power. Therefore, if you cannot force restart iPhone, try to charge for more than 1 hour.

Usually, you can see the icon of the charging status when you charge the phone for a few minutes. If you don’t see this icon, you should check the accessories, like the cable and the power adapter, and then change the faulty parts in time. 3. Fix in Recovery Mode

You can try to connect iPhone to iTunes and repair iPhone i the recovery mode. This mode is a method to fix errors. Under this mode, users restore the device that gives no response. It can boot the device through the iBoot mode. Soon, you will see the icons of iTunes and cable on the screen. Of course, the icons may not be identical in each iOS version. Next, you can fix iPhone.

Steps:

① First, download and install the latest version in the computer. If it is installed well, close it at first.

② Perform the following steps to get into the recovery mode. Don’t release the button until you see the icons of the recovery mode.

iPhone 8 and later models: Quickly press and release the volume up button. Then, quickly press and release the volume down button. Finally, hold the power button until it gets into the recovery mode.
iPhone 7 /7 Plus: Hold the power button and the volume down button until it gets into the recovery mode.
iPhone 6s and earlier models with the Home button: Hold the Home button and the power button until it gets into the recovery mode.

③ After that, iTunes will automatically detect iPhone. Click on [Restore] to factory reset iPhone and erase all data from the phone.

TipsTo quit the recovery mode, iPhone should be restarted by force.

4. Fix in DFU Mode

If you cannot fix the phone under the recovery mode, you can try under the DUF mode. This is a stronger and more advanced way, compared to the recovery mode. Next, you can follow the steps to operate. It is noted that you should exactly obey the procedure duration, or the phone will cannot get into the mode.

Steps:

1. Different ways to access DFU mode for different models:

iPhone 6s or the earlier models, including iPhone SE:

① Connect iPhone to the computer. And then, turn off iPhone.
② Hold the power button for 3 seconds. Then, hold the Home button while pressing the power button for 10 seconds.
③ Release the power button and still hold the Home button for 5 seconds. If the screen stays black, that’s it! Your phone should now be in DFU mode.

iPhone 7/7 Plus:

① Connect iPhone to the computer. Then, turn off iPhone.
② Hold the power button for 3 seconds. Then, press the volume down button while holding the power button for 10 seconds.
③ Release the power button but still hold the volume down button for 5 seconds. If the screen stays black, your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus should now be in DFU mode.

iPhone 8 and the later models:

① Connect iPhone to the computer. Then, press the volume up button at a time and quickly press the volume down button.
② Press and hold the side button until the power off slider appears. Then, press the volume down button while holding the power button for 5 seconds.
③ Release the power button but keep holding the volume button down.
④ If the screen stays black, that’s it! Your iPhone should now be in DFU mode. You will receive the notification from iTunes.

2. Finally, click on [Restore iPhone] in iTunes and wait for the process to be completed.

TipsTo exit DFU mode, iPhone should be restarted by force.

5. Fix through iCloud

Could we fix iPhone through iCloud? In fact, you can remotely erase data through iCloud. That will basically factory reset iPhone but many problems will be solved, especially when iPhone is disabled. Please ensure that you enable the function [Find My iPhone] and turn on iPhone when you use this method.

Steps:

① Get access to iCloud.com in the computer. Log in your Apple account.

② Click on [Find My iPhone] – [All Devices].
