Price and Capacity

The price of SSD has dropped down a lot, but still more expensive than HDD in terms of dollar per gigabyte. Of course, you need to choose the capacity of SSD on the basis of your budget and your computer. But we recommend to choose 250GB SSD if you just make it the system disk and you do not have so many files to save in. If you want a larger one, maybe 500GB is enough. Speed

If you have a fairly new or up-to-date computer, you can purchase the SSD with 500MB/s or even higher. But if it is an old computer, high speed SSD is not so necessary at this moment. Because parts of the hardware may not support reading or writing so fast.

Size

If you want to replace HDD with SSD for the laptop, then you need to take this into consideration. SSD has different thickness. You need to have a check of the thickness of your original disk. If it is 9 mm, then you can purchase the 9 mm SSD or 7mm with an adapter. Because once you purchase the larger size like 9.5 mm, it is impossible to cut the SSD.

Hardware Interface

  1. SATA: The most common interface for hard drive and optical drive. Correctly it should be SATA 3.0 which will can transfer data at 6GBps while SATA 2.0 is at 3GBps which will limit the reading/writing speed of SSD. Besides, if you use SATA, please make sure your computer is SATA 3.0 compatible.
  2. PCI-E: Stand interface for enterprise-class SSD.
  3. M.2 (is NGFF): is specially designed for Ultrabook.
  4. Msata: is very common in laptop. But has been replaced by M.2 gradually. Theoretically, it speed is the same with SATA.
