What Is Guest Account?

Guest account can be used by visitors to access the computer. It does not have the privileges to change Windows settings or install programs. The only thing it can do is to read the files or use the applications that have already been on the computer.

However, computer could easily be hacked by others via guest account and then the password and authority of Adminstrator will leak as well. Generally, the guest account is disabled in default. Actually you can enable guest account manually if you want to use it. Three solutions will be provided here for you to enable it in Windows 10.

How to Enable Guest Account in Windows 10?

Solution #1: Use Local Users and Groups to Enable Guest Account in Windows 10

Note:This solution requires administrator privileges. Besides, it is not appropriate for Windows 10 home edition. Please refer to Solution #2 if administrator account is not available.

Step 1: Press “Win” + “R” key at the same time to open “Run” window. Type in “lusrmgr.msc” and press “Enter”.

Step 2: When you will go into “Local Users and Groups”, double click “Users” and find out the guest account. Right click guest account and then select “Properties” in the menu.

Step 3: When you see the “Guest Properties” window, please do not check the item “Account is disabled” and then click “OK”.

Here are detailed steps on how to reset login password with Renee PassNow.

Step 1: Download and install Renee PassNow in any workable Windows computer.

Select one option from [Crate a Live USB] and [Create a Live CD]. Then, select [x64] or [x86] according to your computer. Next, click on [Download Now] to download the licensed ISO. Remember to activate the software beforehand. After that, click on [Create USB] to create the boot media.

Step 3: Boot the target PC from the created password reset USB/CD/DVD.

You will boot the target computer via a new created reset disk. Firstly, please hold a hot key to enter the BIOS menu and put CD-ROM or Removable Devices as the first choice. Solution #3: Use Command Prompt to Enable Guest Account in Windows 10

Note: This solution is compatible with Windows 10 including home edition and Pro edition. Besides, it also requires administrator privileges.

Step 1: Type “cmd” in search box, right click “Command Prompt” and then click “Run as administrator”.

Step 2: When the Command Prompt pops up, type in: net user guest /active: yes, press “Enter”.

A message “The command completed successfully” will appear if guest account is enabled successfully.

It’s suggested to disable the guest account when you don’t use it. Repeat steps above. When you go into “Command Prompt”, type in: net user guest /active: no.
