Situation 1: Laptop Black Screen without Lights On

Possible Reasons and Related Solutions:

Something Wrong with the Battery

Please remove the battery from laptop at first. Then disconnect any other uncessary external devices. Restart the laptop after 60 seconds. (If black screen happens frequently, please try to solve this problem by removing the battery.)

Check the connection between the power cord and the power adapter. If the connnetion is loose or does not work, please reconnect it. If the problem can not be solved, the power adapter could be damaged and we need to get a new one.

Hardware of the Laptop

Sometimes, the poor connection or damaged of the RAM could also lead to black screen. Please take off the RAM from the laptop and clean the connectors with eraser. Then pelase reseat the RAM stick. If it does not work, please replace the RAM. However, if replacing a new RAM stick still does not work, it is recommended to sent the laptop to professional for repair.

Situation 4: Laptops Black Screen with Cursor

External Devcies are Connected

If your laptop is set to boot from external devices like USB disk, then any other connected external devices could also lead to computer boot failure and black screen. Please check whether you have connected any other uncessary external devices liek SD card, USB disk.

Damaged or Corrupted MBR/DBR in Hard Disk

Error Boot Code

Laptop will get access to the boot code from MBR/DBR when starts up. If the boot code gets damaged or corrupted, laptop will fail to boot and get black screen with cursor on the top-left corner.

Create Windows 10 installation media and run Windows RE after booting from the media. It is recommended to create the bootable media with USB disk. Besides, we can also fix the MBR with tools in third party software like “Renee Passnow”. (Please refer to Reasons and Solution for Windows 10 Boots to Black Screen for detailed steps.)
Step 1: Download and install Windows 10 Media Creation Tool from the following link in another workable PC:

Step 2: Launch the software and choose “Create installation media for another PC”.

Step 3: Connect the Windows 10 installation USB disk to target laptop and set the computer to boot from the USB disk in BIOS.

Step 4: Click “Repair your computer” on “Windows Set Up” interface. Please click in order: “Troubleshoot” – “Prompt Command”. Enter the following commands one after the other: fobootrec/fixmbr, bootrec/fixboot, bootrec/rebuildbcd.

2. Damaged Partitions

Step 1: Download Gparted from the following link: https://sourceforge.net/projects/gparted/. Then write the downloaded iso file to USB with UNetbootin

Step 2: After booting from the CD/USB with Gparted inside, we can get the information of the partitions.

If the paritions are abnormal, it is recommended to recover important data from the partitions with data recovery tool in Renee Passnow before we lost all data. Here are the detailed steps:

Step 1: Download and install Renee Passnow on any other workable computer. 

The Windows computer you installed Renee Passnow need to be able to login and work normally (The Windows version of the computer you are using to create the new password reset disk does not matter.).

Step 2: Launch Renee Passnow. Create bootable media with USB/CD/DVD. 

Select one option from [Crate a Live USB] and [Create a Live CD]. Then, select [x64] or [x86] according to your computer. Next, click on [Download Now] to download the licensed ISO. Remember to activate the software beforehand. After that, click on [Create USB] to create the boot media.

Step 3: Boot the target computer with the created bootable media.

Please hold a Hot key to enter the BIOS menu.Please click here to find how to change the boot order of your computer brand. Please make the create bootable media to be the first in the boot order. (Can not find your brand? Please refer to your PC manual to find out the method.)

Step 4: After loading into the main interface of Renee Passnow, please select “Undeleter” function.

Step 5: Select suitable scan mode and start to scan. You can preview the files while scan process.
