What is Windows Startup Repair Loop?

In order to help users to fix some Windows 10 error which could lead to system boot up failure, Windows 10 provides the built-in function – Startup Repair. However, sometimes, the Statup Repair fails to work for some reasons and it sticks at the auto-repair stage of failing to load Windows. Most 2 common situations that users may encourter:

So, how to fix it? If the situation you encounter is one of the mentioned one, you can try the following solutions.
Fix Startup Repair Loop with Command Prompt
Correct System Boot Settings

Sometimes, system will fail to boot because of the lost, damage or incorrect settings of MBR and BCD data. Here we can fix the startup repair loop by correcting the MBR and rebuild BCD manually. Here is how it goes:
Please press the power button to restart the PC which sticks at the Automatic Repair interface. Repate this step for 2 to 3 times. Then you will get access to Windows RE.

1.Select “Troubleshoot” after loading into Windows RE.

2.Choose “Advanced options” in “Troubleshoot” and then click on “Command Prompt” inside.

3. Enter the following command one after the other. Then please press “Enter” to process the command.
  • Enter BOOTREC /FIXMBR to fix the boot information in MBR. But it will not fix the partition table.
  • Enter bootrec.exe / fixboot to fix the boot information in DBR of system partition.
  • Enter bootrec.exe / rebuildbcd to rebuild the startup configurations.

After entering all these command, please enter “exit” and press enter to exit the window. Finally, please restart your PC.
Fix Bad Sectors and Error in Hard Disk

If PC still sticks at Startup Repair loop, then it could be caused by the bad sectors in the hard disk. Here, we can fix it with chkdsk. To process chkdsk scan, please enter the following command in the Command Prompt window: chkdsk/f/r

If you receive the notification of confirm, pleae press “Y” and then “Enter” to process the commadn. After scan finish, please enter “exit” and restart the computer.
Fix Startup Repair Loop by Removing Recently Installed Software

Safe mode, a diagnosis mode, limits Windows function and boot the system with necessary software. If we sticks in Windows startup repair loop which could be caused by the incompatibility of recently installed software with system, we can regain access to computer via safe mode. Then uninstall those software to solve this problem.

1. Get into Windows RE. Click “Troubleshoot”. Then choose “Advanced options” in “Troubleshoot” and then click on “Startup Settings” inside.

3. After startup, you will get into the “Startup Settings” menu. Press “4″ to enable safe mode.

4. After loading into desktop, you are in safe mode if you can find “Safe Mode” on the conrners of the desktop.

5. Please get into “Settings” and then select “Apps” inside. 
6. Please filter the installed software with “Sort by date” and then uninstall the software one after the other to find the one which leads to startup repair loop.

Fix Startup Repair Loop with System Restore

If the problem can not fix after processing all the mentioned methods. Then please try to fix it with system restore.

1. Get into Windows RE and select “Troubleshoot”. Then choose “System Restore” in “Advanced Settings”.

2. Follow the guidance and select the related backup version to restore.

The system restore function of Windows 10 requires users to make the backup beforehand. So, it is important to backup the sytem regularly. Here is how to create the restore point in Windows 10:
1. Click “Start” and select “Windows system”. Then please choose “Control Panel”.

4. Click “Create” button in “System Protection” tab.

5. Enter a name for the restore point and hit “Create”.
Recover Important Data from Disk

If you can not get access to Windows or create restore point beforehand, you can solve this problem by reinstalling Windows. However, system reinstallation could lead to data lost in system disk. If you want to save data from the system disk before reinstalling system, please try the data transfer function in Renee Passnow. This function can be run without Windows.

Step 1: Download and install Renee Passnow on any other workable computer. 

The Windows computer you installed Renee Passnow need to be able to login and work normally (The Windows version of the computer you are using to create the new password reset disk does not matter.).

Step 2: Launch Renee Passnow. Create bootable media with USB/CD/DVD. 

Select one option from [Crate a Live USB] and [Create a Live CD]. Then, select [x64] or [x86] according to your computer. Next, click on [Download Now] to download the licensed ISO. Remember to activate the software beforehand. After that, click on [Create USB] to create the boot media.

Step 3: Boot the target computer with the created bootable media.

Please hold a Hot key to enter the BIOS menu.Please click here to find how to change the boot order of your computer brand. Please make the create bootable media to be the first in the boot order. (Can not find your brand? Please refer to your PC manual to find out the method.)

Step 4: After loading into the main interface of Renee Passnow, please select “Data Transfer” function.

Step 5: Select the original disk and target disk. And drag the target files to the target disk directly.
