sector by sector clone

I. About cloning by sectors

A sector is the smallest storage unit in a hard disk, and each sector stores a fixed amount of accessible data. A bad sector refers to a sector that is unusable due to some faults in a storage medium (such as a hard disk or a USB flash drive).
Many cloning programs offer a function known as “sector-by-sector cloning”. This means that when a user wants to clone their HDD or SSD, the program will copy all of the sector data from the hard disk. If it encounters any bad sectors, it will skip them in order to ensure a seamless cloning process.
Moreover, if you are looking to swap out the primary disk on your computer for an SSD, sector-by-sector cloning capability can seamlessly transfer the Windows operating system from the HDD to the SSD without the need for a fresh installation. This advanced cloning method guarantees that the destination hard disk or partition retains all the same characteristics (such as drive status, partition size, drive letter, volume number, etc.) as the source.

II. Use Renee Becca to clone hard disk by sector

At present, there are numerous software options available for cloning hard drives. However, some of them lack the capability to clone hard drives by sectors, resulting in incomplete cloning processes. In this regard, I would like to introduce Renee Becca, a top-notch hard disk cloning tool that not only offers various cloning modes but also enables sector-by-sector cloning. Let’s delve deeper into this software and its usage.

If you wish to continue using a damaged hard disk, there are ways to repair it. However, if the issue is severe, it is not advisable to store important data on it to prevent loss. In case you need to retrieve data from a hard drive with bad sectors, click here for more information.

III. How to repair hard disk bad sectors?

1. Run the CHKDSK command to repair logical bad sectors

Use the CHKDSK command to repair the logical bad sectors of the hard disk, please perform the following steps:
Step 1: Connect the hard disk to the computer, search (cmd) in the search box in the lower left corner, right-click (command prompt), and select (run as administrator) to open the command prompt tool.
run as administrator
Step 2: In the opened command prompt window, enter the command chkdsk X: /r /f (X: refers to the hard drive letter; /r and /f are chkdsk parameters), and press (Enter) to fix the error. After the hard disk is repaired, check whether the device works normally.

2. Repair the faulty hard disk with the help of Windows' built-in error checking function

Windows devices have a built-in hard disk fault inspection and repair function, which can be used to repair bad sectors on the hard disk. The steps are as follows:
Step 1: Open “My Computer/This Computer”, right-click the hard disk with bad sectors, and select (Properties). Switch to the (Tools) option in the Properties window and click the (Check) button.
check SD card
