How to Enable or Disable Windows 10 Password Prompt on Wakeup?

Depending on your environment, you can decide whether the password is required or not when your PC wakes up. Next, let’s learn about how to turn on or off “Require a password on wakeup” in Windows 10.

Solution #1: Enable or Disable Windows 10 Password Prompt on Wakeup in Settings

Step 1: Press “Wi” + “I” key to open Windows “Settings” and then click on “Accounts”.

Step 2: Click on “Sign-in options” on the left side. Under the “Require sign-in”, please select “Never” if you would not like to sign in Windows 10 again when it wakes up. Otherwise, please select “When PC wakes up from sleep”.

This method is very simple. But when you use a laptop which is powered by a battery, it’s suggested to try the following solutions.

Solution #2: Enable or Disable Windows 10 Password Prompt on Wakeup Using Group Policy

Step 1: Press “Win” + “R” to open “Run”. Then type in “gpedit.msc” and press “Enter” to open the Local Group Policy Editor.

Step 2: Please select the items in order: Computer Configuration – Administrative Templates – System – Power Management – Sleep Settings.

Step 3: Double click “Require a password when a computer wakes (plugged in)” or “Require a password when a computer wakes (on battery)”.

Step 4:  Choose “Enable” or “Disable” depending on your needs and click “OK”.

This way is available for the device that is plugged in or powered by a battery. In addition, the Local Group Policy Editor can only be accessed in the Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions. If the Local Group Policy Editor cannot be run in your PC, please try to use Solution #3 below.

Solution #3: Enable or Disable Windows 10 Password Prompt on Wakeup in Command Prompt

At first, please open the command prompt with steps here: Click the Start menu, find out “Windows system” and click on it. Right click on the “command prompt”, click on “More” and then select “run as administrator”.
